CONTEXT

Administrative/Biographical history: William Washington Owen, a Welsh Baptist minister, was born in Llandudno, Caernarfonshire, Wales, in 1889. He moved to Ynysybwl, Glamorgan, in 1908 and later attended the Collegiate Graig Wen, Pontypridd for two years before returning to live at Llandudno Junction. In 1916 he was ordained at Horeb Welsh Baptist Church, Llandudno Junction, Caernarfonshire. He was successively minister at Bethesda, Caernarfonshire, 1926-1933, Tonypandy, Glamorgan, 1933-1951, and Bedlinog, Glamorgan, from 1951 until his retirement in 1962. Following his retirement he moved to Llanidloes, Montgomeryshire, where he died in 1969.

CONTENT

Scope and content/abstract: The fonds comprises entirely of Rev. William Washington Owen's diaries. They detail daily domestic and professional events with occasional comments on national and international affairs. They were written whilst he was a minister at Tonypandy, Bedlinog, and during his retirement at Llanidloes.
