CONTEXT

Administrative/Biographical history: Plas Tregayan estate, Anglesey, was owned by the Prytherch family; John Prytherch (alive 1575) appears to have been the first member of the family to have used the surname. The estate remained in the hands of the Prytherch family until the death of John Prytherch in 1724. He was succeeded by his daughter Ann who, in 1725, married John Edmunds, rector of Aber, Caernarfonshire, and son of John Edmunds, agent of the Penrhyn Castle estate. She was succeeded by her eldest son John who was drowned near Harlech in 1754, aged 28. The estate then passed to his sister Margaret (c. 1733-1784) who had married Robert Lloyd of Gwynus, Llŷn. Their eventual heir was their third son, John Lloyd of Cesailgyfarch, Caernarfonshire. He was succeeded by his only daughter Margaret Hooper Lloyd (1790-1858).
Margaret Hooper Lloyd married Thomas Parry Jones-Parry (1784-1845) owner of the Llwyn Onn estate, Denbighshire, and the Aberdunant estate, Caernarfonshire, and brother of Sir Love Parry Jones-Parry, owner of the Madryn estate, Caernarfonshire. Thomas and Margaret's eldest surviving son, Robert Lloyd Jones-Parry (1816-1870), inherited the Aberdunant estate. He was succeeded by his son Robert Lloyd Jones-Parry (1816-1870). His son, Thomas Edward John Lloyd (b. 1856) also inherited the property of his great-grandfather, Vice Admiral Robert Lloyd of Tregayan, Anglesey, and assumed the name of Lloyd on succeeding to the estate.
