CONTEXT

Administrative/Biographical history: In 1996, the Mission Board of the Presbyterian Church of Wales commissioned a survey into the Church's human and material resources, to be undertaken by the Open University in Wales. In order to test the methodology of this social survey, a pilot project was run in twenty-two churches in north Wales in 1996, in which the secretary of each church was asked to complete a bilingual questionnaire. The main survey was conducted in 1997, involving a twenty per cent sample of all the denomination's churches which were open in that year, and analysis of the results was completed and published in 1999. --- In addition to this, from 1986 to 1997 the Church in northern Ceredigion collected annual statistics of its ministers, membership and financial resources.
