Administrative/Biographical history: The Rev. Eiflyn Peris Owen was a Presbyterian minister, serving at Tregynon, Montgomeryshire, 1959-1962. He then moved to Aberfan, Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan and was heavily involved in the aftermath of the Aberfan disaster in 1966, which killed 144 people, and in the creation of the Aberfan Disaster Fund. He later moved to Treorchy, Glamorgan, and then Melbourne, Australia.


Scope and content/abstract: Correspondence, press cuttings, papers and campaigns of the Aberfan Disaster and the Aberfan Disaster Fund, 1966-1968; religious life of Aberfan, 1967-1968, and miscellanea, 1958-1980; personal correspondence, 1958-1967; press cuttings, 1967-1973; journals and leaflets, 1968-1979; and papers relating to his ministry in Melbourne, Australia, 1990.

Immediate source of acquisition: Donated by the Reverend Eilflyn Peris Owen, Treorci in 1984 and 1997.


Related material: A cassette of lectures on folk-lore and superstitions and on the Aberfan disaster (the latter not available until 2016) has been transferred to the National Screen and Sound Archive. Further papers on the Aberfan Disaster include: NLW Aberfan Parents and Residents Association Records, Lord Edmund-Davies Papers, Rev. Evan Wyn Williams Papers, and at the National Archives.
