Administrative/Biographical history: Philip Thomas (1857-1938), Neath, was a teacher and musician. He competed in and adjudicated at local eisteddfodau and other musical events and conducted cymanfaoedd canu. He was secretary of Bethlehem Green Calvinistic Methodist Chapel, Neath, and was General Secretary of the National Eisteddfod of Wales, Neath, 1918.


Scope and content/abstract: Manuscripts and papers of Philip Thomas, [c. 1804]-[c. 1938], including poetry; correspondence; addresses and miscellaneous notes; collections of hymn-tunes and Welsh folk-songs; manuscripts of 'Ynys y Trysor', a translation of Treasure Island, 1920; essays and biographical accounts; minute books and accounts relating to various eisteddfodau, in particular the 1918 Royal National Eisteddfod of Wales in Neath, 1907-1934; and papers relating to Calvinistic Methodism in Neath, 1885-1924.
