CONTEXT

Administrative/Biographical history: The Reverend David Bateman (1807-1886) was minister of Rhosycaerau Independent chapel at St Nicholas, Pembrokeshire. Griffith Jones, Llanddowror (1683-1761), religious and educational reformer, first published his Esponiad byr ar Gatecism yr Eglwys in 1752. Telyn y Cristion, a collection of hymns, was first published at Carmarthen in 1830. The Reverend James Griffiths (1782-1858) served as Independent minister at Rhodiad and St Davids, Pembrokeshire from 1841 until his death in 1858.

CONTENT

Scope and content/abstract: Devotional works, 1814-1850, of Pembrokeshire provenance comprising a volume of sermon notes, 1848-1850, of the Reverend David Bateman, St Nicholas, Pembrokeshire; a copy of Griffith Jones, Llanddowror's Esponiad byr ar Gatecism yr Eglwys (4th ed., Llundain, 1778); and a copy of Telyn y Cristion (Caerfyrddin, [1830]). The two printed volumes are annotated by their owners with verses, memoranda, etc.
