CONTEXT

Administrative/Biographical history: John Rice Thomas, JP (1848-1916), farmer, lived at Bodeilio, Talwrn, Anglesey. He was the son of Evan R. Thomas of Rhyd Stores, Talwrn; his relatives included Winifred Hughes (née Thomas) (b. 1862) and Martha Thomas (a nurse in Dublin, Ireland, 1886-1903). He kept the accounts of the Band of Hope, and may have been involved in running Talwrn M. C. Church. He also assisted with Pentraeth Horticultural Show (1905) and a coronation party in 1911. Miss Helena W. Hughes (b. c. 1905), of Eithinog, Llangefni, Anglesey, formerly lived at Brynhyfryd, Talwrn, Anglesey; she was the niece of John Rice Thomas and daughter of John and Winifred Hughes.

Scope and content/abstract: Papers of Miss Helena W. Hughes, Anglesey, mainly family papers, 1834-[1945], including account book, Capel M C, Talwrn, 1887-1889; papers relating to Pentraeth Horticultural Show, 1904-1908; and farming diaries and other papers of John Rice Thomas, 1907-1916, including a farm notebook and Bodeilio accounts, 1916-1919, plans of Ynys and Dafan Dirion, Llanddyfnan, [n. d.].
