CONTEXT

Administrative/Biographical history: Thomas Thomas (1856-1905) was born in Aberystwyth, Cardiganshire, in 1856. He served as an ordinary seaman at the age of 16. He later became a Trinity House pilot, and was drowned along with four of the crew of the Holyhead lifeboat in Holyhead Bay in 1905 while going to the aid of a vessel in distress during a hurricane. His daughter, Phoebe Lovick, lived in Barmouth, Merionethshire.
