Administrative/Biographical history: William Matthews Williams (1885-1972), musician, was born in Burwen, Amlwch, Anglesey. He studied at the Royal Academy in London, and his work as musician and conductor took him to Chester, Cheshire, Liverpool, Lancashire, Cardiganshire and Anglesey. Eryl Wyn Rowlands, music historian and teacher, gathered material concerning him for a book, 'Gŵr annwyl ein prifwyliau': cofiant i W. Matthews Williams, 1885-1972 (Liverpool; Llanddewi Brefi, 1986).


Scope and content/abstract: Papers relating to W. Matthews Williams, Anglesey, [c. 1855]-[1985]; including his compositions, posters, advertisements, programmes, music, letters, musical scores owned by him, 1889-1972; papers relating to his involvement in eisteddfodau, 1925-1937; copy programmes of the Liverpool Post Office Choral Society, 1923-1931; newspaper cuttings, 1935-1985; photographs, [c. 1855]-1982.
