Administrative/Biographical history: On Wednesday, 10 August 1910, pioneer aviator Robert Loraine was attending the Blackpool Flying Meeting and there had secretly planned a record breaking flight across the Irish Sea from Holyhead to Dublin. Loraine left Blackpool, flew along the North Wales coast and landed at Rhos-on-Sea. From there he continued towards Holyhead taking a route over the sea but he then became lost because of large amounts of haze that obscured his view. Eventually he managed to find his way back to land and made a forced landing on the north coast of Anglesey, at Llanfairynghornwy. While attempting to take off from Llanfairynghornwy he suffered a crash and in order to repair the aircraft a temporary hangar was erected on land belonging to Mynachdy Farm. The photographs reveal the hangar to be of the Bessoneau type, that is a portable timber and canvas hangar designed and manufactured in France. (Loraines' mechanic, Jules Vedrines, who carried out repairs to the bipland was French). It would appear that the biplane was the first aircraft to fly in Anglesey and North wales (and could be the first in the whole of Wales, except that the Cardiff-based pilot, Horace Watkins, has a rival claim.
