CONTEXT

Administrative/Biographical history: William Bulkeley Hughes ( 1797 - 1882) was the eldest son of Sir William Bulkeley Hughes of Plas Coch and Brynddu, Anglesey and Elizabeth, daughter of Rice Thomas of Coed Alun, Caernarvon. He took an keen interest in local affairs and served as Justice of the Peace for Anglesey and Caernarvonshire, and High Sheriff of Anglesey in 1861. A keen speculator he took full advantage of the railway boom in the 1840s to augment his Anglesey estate.

Scope and content/abstract: Plans of Brynddu Estate in the parishes of Llanfechell, Llanbadrig, Amlwch, Llandausaint and Llanfaethlu Anglesey; and plans of Plas Coch Estate in the parishes of Llanedwan, Llanidan, Llanceinwen, Llanddaniel and Penmynydd, Anglesey.
