CONTEXT

Administrative/Biographical history: Plas Rhianfa was built in 1849, for Sir John Hay Williams. It was designed by Liverpool architect Charles Reed and built by a local builder, John Rogers of Beaumaris. The house remained in the family until 1930 when it was given to Dr and Mrs Verney, as a wedding present. Plas Rhianfa has been sub-divided into holiday apartments but since 2004. The gardens have undergone renovation and it is now part of the Clarenco Group who provide luxury retreat accommodation.

CONTENT

Scope and content/abstract: Items relating to Plas Rhianva, Llandegfan. Includes an illuminated address dedicated to E. H. Verney Esq. and Mrs M. M. Verney of Rhainfa, Anglesey from the tenants of the Rhianfa estates congratulating them on the occasion of their silver wedding anniversary; information about the proposed renovation of the garden at Plas Rhianva, and a collection of photos showing the renovation work; completion of the renovation with photographs (including copy of aerial photograph of the estate taken by a German Zeppelin in 1938) and videos showing the completed work; also includes promotional material re the house and gardens, with a visitors book from flat 8.

Physical characteristics: The Illuminated Manuscript was in very poor condition when rescued from site, having been exposed to the elements and covered in grass seeds immediate conservation was necessary. It has now been stabilized and is in a reasonable condition. The original ink is very faded. The modern information and photographs are in good condition.

Finding aids: Hard copies of the catalogues are available at Archifau Ynys Môn/Anglesey Anrchives and the National Register of Archives. It is the policy of Archifau Ynys Môn/Anglesey Archives to catalogue in the language of the document.
