CONTEXT

Administrative/Biographical history: In July 1785, the trustees of Acton Hall sold the Acton Hall estate, the tithes of Acton, and a moiety of tithes of Wrexham, for £27,000 to Sir Foster Cunliffe, 3rd Bart, of Saighton, Cheshire. The sale was effected in August 1787. Sir Foster repaired parts of the house in May 1786. Between 1821 and 1824, Heol Pwll y Kiln was purchased by him. Pant Iocyn was in the possession of Sir Robert Alfred Cunliffe, 5th Bart, in the latter half of the 19th century. On his death in 1905 the estate was rented to Sir William Hope Nelson, and in 1917, on the death of Sir Foster H. E. Cunliffe, it was sold to Sir Bernard Oppenheimer. The house was demolished in 1955.
