CONTEXT

Administrative/Biographical history: John Thomas (1845-1889) of Bank House, Flint, Flintshire, was a businessman. He was born in Holywell, Flintshire, moving to Flint when aged 20. He had various business interests including a butchers and provision shop in Flint, a drapery and grocery in Bagillt, Flintshire, and a farm. He was a deacon at Caersalem Calvinistic Methodist Chapel, Flint, and a member of Flint town council. His wife was a member of the North Wales Women's Temperance Union. He died on 28 June 1889.

Scope and content/abstract: Papers of John Thomas and his family, comprising records relating to his farm and grocery business, 1875-1909; family papers, 1875-c.1921, including correspondence, 1875-1899; papers relating to Caersalem CM Chapel, 1879-1908; papers relating to local affairs in Flint, 1880-1909; records relating to the North Wales Women's Temperance Union, 1895-1908; and genealogical and biographical notes by Anita M. Thomas, 1993.
