Name of creator(s): Gwilym H. Morris


Administrative/Biographical history: Gwilym H. Morris (c. 1900-c.1971) was a resident of Afon-wen, Flintshire. He had a sister Mabel Foulkes (née Morris) (fl. 1900-1998) and a brother, John. During the early 20th century, he was a market reporter for the Board of Agriculture and Fisheries, and chairman of Caerwys magistrates until his retirement in 1958.


Scope and content/abstract: Records collected by Gwilym Morris, [c.1685]-[c. 1998], including personal papers of G. H. Morris, 1965-1988; personal papers of Mabel Foulkes, [c. 1900]-[c. 1998]; correspondence and records relating to property of G. H. Morris, 1924-1966; deeds, relating to lands in the parishes of Flint, Holywell, and Ysceifiog, Flintshire, 1811-1875; photographs, [c. 1871]-1988; farm accounts, 1873-1972; newspaper cuttings, 1884-[1980s]; articles, 1886-1938; notebooks, 1906-1973; correspondence, 1856-1961; vouchers, 1919-1950; printed books, [c.1685-1986; and maps, 1871-1914.

System of arrangement: Most items are not arranged but the following groups appear within the listing: Printed Books [including a subgroup concerned with Daniel Owen]; Maps; Deeds; Photographs; Estate of the late G. H. Morris; Estate of the late Mrs. Mabel Foulkes of Rhesycae (youngest sister of G. H. Morris).

Conditions governing access: Data Protection Act restrictions will apply to any items less than 100 years old that contain sensitive personal information as defined by the Act.

Appraisal, destruction and scheduling information: The following have been permanently withdrawn and copies made: D/DM/469/35, D/DM/473/27, D/DM/473/30, D/DM/473/39, D/DM/473/46(part), D/DM/473/111(1 of 2 copies), D/DM/473/118(part). Transferred to Flintshire County Museum and Library service were 192 items (antiquities; collection of agricultural farm implements), ANT90 and ANT96, deposited by G. H. Morris in 1975. Item 64 was however returned to him.

Archival history: After the death of Gwilym Morris, further papers were added to the collection by Mrs J E Tapper.
