CONTEXT

Administrative/Biographical history: John Albert Jones, ARICS (1906-1991), of South Bank, Rhyddyn Hill, Caergwrle, Flintshire, was a surveyor at Llay Hall Colliery, Llay, Denbighshire, 1923-1947. He subsequently went into private practice as a chartered surveyor, specialising in collieries, metalliferous mines, and slate and other quarries in north Wales. He collected historical items in connection with his work. He was a member of the Royal Observer Corps in 1947.

Jones, [1848]-1990, including sections, plans, statistics, correspondence and other papers relating to Llay Hall Colliery, [early 20th century]-1984; plans and sections of Brymbo, Brynmally, Cefn-y-bedd, Coed Talon, Coed-y-felin, Copy, Ffrith, Ffrwd, Glascoed, Grosvenor, Hafod Abley, Hazlewood, Hope, Llay Main, Pen-y-coed, Plas Mostyn, Pont Plas Maen, Talwrn, Ty'n Twll and Woodland collieries, and fireclay mines in Flintshire and Denbighshire, [1848]-1984; plans relating to Holywell-Halkyn Mining and Tunnel Co., [late 19th century]- 1990, and Park lead mines, [mid-19th century]; plans and sections of Cambrian Quarries, Lloyd's Quarries, Moel Ferna Quarries, Parc-y-meirch Quarry and Voel Quarry, [?1951]-1982; geological maps relating to areas of Flintshire, Denbighshire, Cheshire and Shropshire, 1888-1928; and papers of J.
