CONTEXT

Administrative/Biographical history: Lowther College was founded by Miss F. L. Morris, later Mrs Lindley, at Lytham St Anne's, Lancashire, in 1896. She moved the school to Bodelwyddan Castle, Denbighshire, in 1920, and continued as Headmistress until 1927, when she sold it to the Allied Schools. Mrs Lindley then converted Kinmel Hall, Denbighshire, into a Rheuma Spa, which she continued to run until the beginning of the Second World War, when it was taken over as a hospital. Lowther College continued to flourish as an independent school. From 1977, boys were also admitted, but with declining numbers, the school closed in July 1982.
