CONTEXT

Administrative/Biographical history: Ithel Kelly, (alive c. 1930-1993), of Wrexham, Flintshire, researched the collieries of the North Wales Coalfield in Denbighshire and Flintshire, and wrote several papers on the subject. From 1969 to c. 1973, Kelly was the manager of Gresford Colliery, Denbighshire.

Scope and content/abstract: Records relating to collieries in Flintshire, Denbighshire and Shropshire, 1860-1989, consisting of wage lists, reports, output summaries, plans, photographs, and research notes of Ithel Kelly. The fonds includes general records, 1923-1977; records relating to the North Wales Coalfield, 1938-1975; records relating to collieries, including Point of Ayr, 1907-1987; Gresford, 1934-1976; Ifton, 1952-1968; Llay Hall, 1946-1987; Llay Main, 1923-1929; and Bersham, 1969-1974; plans of Wynnstay Colliery, 1860-1889; reports of colliery accidents, 1951-1973; and miscellaneous, 1936-1989.
