CONTEXT

Administrative/Biographical history: John Wynne Griffith of Garn, Denbighshire, and Jane his wife had thirteen children, nine of whom survived to adulthood. Of those only Edward Humphrey Griffith (1792-1872) and George Griffith lived to any great age. Edward had inherited lands in Denbighshire and Merionethshire through his elder brother, Robert. He chose to live at Greenbank, Henllan, Denbighshire, where he built a house to his own plan, renaming it Plasnewydd. In 1834 he married Maria, daughter of Philip Parry of Ty Newydd and Castle House, Denbigh, by whom he had two children. He served as treasurer of Denbighshire for over 50 years. Edward Wynne Griffith (1837-1917), Edward Humphrey's son, married Emma Frances Marianne Park (d. 1931), daughter of William Waldegrave Park and Elizabeth, daughter of Edmund Yates. Edward purchased an estate at Tiresford near Tarporley, Cheshire, where he resided during the latter part of his life. His son, Edward Waldegrave Griffith, was executor of his aunt, Clementina Park-Yates (d. 1935) of Ince Hall, Cheshire.
