The district comprised the parishes of Bettws Bledrws, Cellan, Lampeter rural, Llanfairclydogau, Llangybi, Llanwenog, Llanwnen, Silian and Trefilan (the town of Lampeter was covered by Lampeter Borough Council). The council comprised councillors and a chairman, elected for three years. RDCs were administered by a number of committees and by appointed officers including a clerk, treasurer, medical officer of health, surveyor and sanitary inspector. They originally took over responsibility for local sanitation from the local sanitary authorities and their responsibilities included sanitary services, sewerage, refuse collection, maintaining local roads, cemeteries, parks, and licensing of public entertainments, water supply and later housing. In 1934 the Rural District Councils of Lampeter and Aberaeron were amalgamated to form Aberayron Rural District Council.
