CONTEXT

Administrative/Biographical history: Boy Scout groups were formed in the early 1900s. Several troops were established in Cardiganshire, including Aberystwyth and Newcastle Emlyn in 1910 and New Quay in 1913. The Boy Scout Association was established in 1910 in order to support the individual scout troops, by which time there were already 100,000 scouts in Britain. The Association is organised into areas, of which Cardiganshire is one (now Ceredigion); Mid-Ceredigion District lies within it.

Scope and content/abstract: Records of Mid-Ceredigion Scout District, including annual census papers, 1951-1981, registration forms and warrants, 1956-1973, insurance forms, 1963-1973, correspondence and miscellaneous documents, 1973-1981, and Executive Committee minutes, 1974-1978; correspondence and documents of South Ceredigion Scout District, 1923-1981; 1st New Quay Scout Group minutes and correspondence, 1977-1981; minute book of the formation of scouting at Newcastle Emlyn, 1910; printed matter, [1909]-[1988]; bills and receipts relating to uniforms, 1910-1911; newspaper cuttings, 1985; registration forms and warrants, 1910-1981; and depositor's schedule and notes, [1988].
