Administrative/Biographical history: Picton Castle, Slebech, Pembrokeshire, was the seat of the Philipps families since 1469. The Rev. James Henry Alexander Philipps (formerly Gwyther) (d. 1875) of Picton Castle was succeeded by his son-in-law Sir Charles Edward Gregg Philipps (formerly Fisher), who was created a baronet in 1887. This baronetcy, and the Picton Estate, descended to his son, Sir Henry Erasmus Edward Philipps (1871-1938), and then to his son, Sir John Erasmus Gwynne Alexander Philipps (1915-1948). The estate was involved in the Higgons Well Mineral Water Manufactory, in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire.


Scope and content/abstract: Leases 1859-1938; Picton Castle Estate tithe redemption papers, 1922-1932; draft conveyances, 1894-1945; documents relating to sale, plans and particulars of the Picton Castle Estate, 1928-1942; and Higgons Well Mineral Water Manufactory, Haverfordwest papers, 1900-1928.
