Name of creator(s): David Salmon


Administrative/Biographical history: David Salmon (1852-1944) was principal of Swansea Training College, Swansea, Glamorgan. He was born in Newport, Pembrokeshire; he studied at Borough Road Training College, London, 1870-1871, then became the headmaster of a school at Belvedere Place, Borough Road, 1875-1891. From 1891 to 1922, he was principal of the Swansea Training College for women. He was a prolific writer of school textbooks and other works, including a biography of Borough Road's founder, Joseph Lancaster (1778-1838), and volumes on the French Invasion of 1797. He also wrote articles on Welsh and Pembrokeshire history and contributed to Pembrokeshire newspapers. He married Mary Wiedhofft (d 1925) in 1876, and had five children. In 1899, he visited the United States. In 1922, he retired to Narberth, Pembrokeshire, and died in Lampeter Velfrey, Pembrokeshire, in 1944.
