CONTEXT

Administrative/Biographical history: The Howell family lived in Cosheston, Pembrokeshire and were involved in the timber industry. Florence Howell (1869-1946) wrote poetry and short stories with her sister, Daisy (1864-1904). In later life, Florence concentrated on writing plays in Pembrokeshire dialect, including Jane Wogan, Castle Garth and A Woman of Compassion.

Scope and content/abstract: Papers of the Howell family, 1830-1957, including timber business records, 1874-1933; agricultural records, 1910-1919; records of shares, 1932-1956; correspondence, mainly to Florence Howell, 1880-1957; plays by Florence Howell, 1927-1934; short stories mainly by Florence Howell, [early 20th century]; and poems, mainly by Florence Howell, 1830-[early 20th century].
