CONTEXT

Administrative/Biographical history: The Union of Post Office Workers was formed in 1919; it was renamed the Union of Communication Workers in 1980, before merging with the National Communications Union to form the Communication Workers' Union in 1995. The Post Office service (General Post Office) was run directly by the Government until 1969, when it became a nationalised industry, the Post Office Corporation. Staff of the Post Office in Fishguard and Goodwick, Pembrokeshire, were members of the Union.
