Administrative/Biographical history: The Cardiff Independent Resource Centre Development Group was set up in 1991 to help the campaign to establish a resource centre for voluntary and self help groups in central Cardiff. The proposed centre was a Cardiff Trade Union Council initiative in partnership with other interested groups and organisations. The Cardiff Unemployed Group was established in 1987. Its purpose was to bring unemployed people together for mutual support; create a forum for disscussion and help the unemployed adapt to the changing nature of employment. Moreover the group stressed that they were an organisation "OF the unemployed and not another service FOR the unemployed". The 'Save Ty Bronna' and its Gardens Campaign was launched c 1992 to protest at proposals to build housing on the site of a listed building in Fairwater, Cardiff. In 2002 the building was reopened as a community centre with accommodation for homeless youngsters.
