Administrative/Biographical history: The Perrott and Richards families held land in the parishes of Gelligaer, Eglwysilan, Llanfabon and Merthyr Tydfil, in Glamorgan, including Smith's forge. By the 1790s, the Perrott family had established the Hengoed Estate, based around Hengoed Farm. The Richards family owned Gwernau Ganol and Gwernau Fawr, Bedwas, Monmouthshire. The Jones family lived in Gelligaer.
