Administrative/Biographical history: The Society for Establishing and Supporting English Congregational Churches in South Wales and Monmouthshire was founded in 1860. Two years later, an Association of English Independent Ministers for Glamorgan and the adjoining counties was set up. In 1879 the first Society, under a new constitution, adopted the title of the South Wales English Congregational Society, and in 1889 took the name South Wales English Congregational Church Aid Society. In 1899 the various societies were amalgamated to form the South Wales English Congregational Union. The Union received the records of South Pembrokeshire English Congregational Association.
