The Local Board of Health was superceded, in January 1895, by Aberdare Urban District Council. The minute books of Board committees and the journal of the inspector of canal boats, continued to be used by the new Urban District Council, until 1900 and 1901 respectively. The Board's area lacked comprehensive sanitation and running water until the late nineteeth century. Piped water supply was provided through construction of Bwllfa reservoir and Nant-hir reservoir, at Llwydcoed.
