Administrative/Biographical history: Barry and Cadoxton Local Board of Health (Glamorgan), was created in 1888, out of the Cardiff Rural Sanitary Authority. It covered the parishes of Barry, Cadoxton-juxta-Barry, Merthyr Dyfan and part of Sully. It was superseded in 1895 by Barry Urban District Council. The minutes books record the meetings of the Local Board of Health and continued in use as minutes books of the Urban District Council, and the minutes of the Local Board for the last months of its existence (Jun - Dec 1894), can be found in the first minute book of the Urban District Council.
Scope and content/abstract: Records of the Barry and Cadoxton Local Board of Health, 1888-1894, includes: minute books, 1888-1894 (including Barry and Cadoxton Port Sanitary Committee minutes, 1893-1894); rate books, 1888-1894; petition against Barry Dock and Railway Bill, 1889; and papers relating to Barry Railway Bill, 1892.

Archival history: The records were inherited by Barry Urban District Council in 1895.
Immediate source of acquisition: Deposited by Barry Borough Council in 1948. Further small deposits were made by Barry Borough Council in 1949, and 1974. Another small deposit was made by the Divisional Education Officer for South East Glamorgan in 1952 .
