CONTEXT

Administrative/Biographical history: Mountain Ash Local Board of Health, Glamorgan, was set up in 1867. It covered parts of the parishes of Llanwonno [Llanwynno], Aberdare and Llanfabon, and as well as the town of Mountain Ash, included Ynysybwl and Cwmpennar. The Local Board was succeeded in 1895 by Mountain Ash Urban District Council. The minutes book used to record the meetings of the Local Board continued in use as the minute book of the new Urban District Council.

Scope and content/abstract: Records of the Mountain Ash Local Board of Health, 1867-1919, includes: minutes, 1867-1895 (including minutes for Mountain Ash UDC Jan-Sep 1895); local acts and orders of Local Government Board relating to Mountain Ash Local Board and UDC, 1866-1909; plans of the Local Board Area, [c. 1866]-1880; bye-laws, 1888-1907; and Cardiff Corporation Waterworks, book of reference of land to be acquired, 1919.

Appraisal, destruction and scheduling information: All records have been retained.

Accruals: Accruals are not expected.

Archival history: The records were inherited by Mountain Ash Urban District Council in 1895.

Immediate source of acquisition: The bulk of the records of Mountain Ash Local Board were deposited by Cynon Valley Borough Council in 1974. A small deposit was made by the Divisional Education Officer in 1947.
