CONTEXT

Administrative/Biographical history: Ogmore and Garw Local Board of Health (Glamorgan) was created in 1887, out of the Bridgend and Cowbridge Rural Sanitary District. It covered all of the parishes of Betws, Llandyfodwg and Llangeinor, and included Blaengarw, Pontycymer and Pontyrhyl, part of Brynmenyn and the villages of Betws and Llangeinor in the Garw Valley, Nant-y-moel and Tynewydd in the Ogmore Valley, and Llandyfodwg, Blackmill and Gilfach Goch (except a small part to the east of the river) in the Ogmore Fach Valley. The Local Board was succeeded in 1895 by the Ogmore and Garw Urban District Council. The minutes book used to record the meetings of the Local Board continued in use as the minutes book of the Urban District Council, and the last volume of Local Board minutes consequently contains minutes for the Urban District Council until July 1896.
