Administrative/Biographical history: Bridgend Urban District Council (Glamorgan) was formed following the Local Government England and Wales Act 1894. It took over the functions of Bridgend Local Board of Health. The council's area of responsibility corresponded with the civil parish of Bridgend, Glamorgan. The Urban District Council ceased to exist on 31 March 1974, and was merged with the Urban Districts of Maesteg, Porthcawl, Ogmore and Garw and Penybont Rural District to form Ogwr Borough Council. Ogwr Borough Council later changed its name to Bridgend Borough Council.
Scope and content/abstract: Council and committee minute books, 1894-1974; sealing registers, 1937-1969; mortgage registers, 1913-1964; contract papers, 1959-1974; miscellaneous records, 1902-1970; building regulations and other plans, 1861-1872; sales particulars, 1909; ledgers and accounts, 1910-1974; valuation lists, 1905-1914; and rates, 1901-1963; and papers realting to the Chief Medical Officer of Health, 1921-1935.
