Administrative/Biographical history: Ogmore and Garw Urban District Council (Glamorgan) was formed in 1894, following the Local Government England and Wales Act. It took over the functions of Ogmore and Garw Local Board of Health. The Council's area of responsibility was the parishes of Bettws, Llandyfodwg and Llangeinor, Glamorgan. The Urban District Council ceased to exist on 31 March 1974, and was merged with the Urban Districts of Bridgend, Maesteg, Porthcawl and Penybont Rural District to form Ogwr (later Bridgend) Borough Council. The area became part of Bridgend County Borough in 1996.
Scope and content/abstract: Records of the Ogmore and Garw Urban District Council, 1903-1975, includes: council and committee minutes, 1903-1973 (with gaps); registers of sealed documents, 1939-1964; registers of mortgages, 1884-1924; registers of advances made under the Small Dwellings Acquisitions Act, 1899-1927, 1868-1970; registers of dwelling houses under section 2 of the Rent Act, 1933-1937; register of local land charges, 1926-1966; correspondence, 1940-1960; housing accounts, 1899-1927; burial accounts, 1921-1930; registers of ministers officiating at burials, 1949-1975; registers of undertakers' burial fees, 1955-1975; registers of graves, 1918-1945; burial records for llangeinor churchyard and Pwllypant, Gelliron, Blaenogwr and Glynogwr cemeteries; photographs of homes prior to demolition, [c. 1960]; registers of tuberculosis notifications, 1925-1973.
