Administrative/Biographical history: Porthcawl Urban District Council (Glamorgan) was formed in 1894, following the Local Government England and Wales Act 1894. It took over the functions of Porthcawl Local Board of Health. The Council's area of responsibility was the parish of Newton Nottage; among other activities, it managed the public cemetery at Pyle Road, Nottage. The Urban District Council ceased to exist on 31 March 1974, and was merged with the Urban Districts of Bridgend, Maesteg, and Ogmore and Garw, and Penybont Rural District to form Ogwr Borough Council.
Scope and content/abstract: Records of the Porthcawl Urban District Council, 1895-1974, includes: meetings of council and committees, 1895-1974; council minutes, 1972-1974; finance committee, treasurers's reports, 1958-1974; public health committee reports, 1930-1968; papers relating to the public cemetery, 1934-1974; papers relating to the clerk's department, 1911-1974; papers relating to the engineer and surveyor's department, 1887-1957; and papers relating to the treasurer's department, 1914-1974.
