CONTEXT

Administrative/Biographical history: The first meeting of Tredegarville English Baptist church (Glamorgan) took place in 1861, under the Rev. Alfred Tilly (1861-1893), former minister of Bethany Baptist church, Cardiff (1857-1861). The church was needed owing to the rapid growth of Cardiff and the increasing number of adherents. The church was formally opened in the Parade, 22 May 1862. Members of the church were also instrumental in establishing other Baptist churches in Grangetown, Longcross Street, Pearl Street, and Splott Road. On the 24 October 1909, the Llanishen Branch was formed as a separate church, and continues to function as such.

Scope and content/abstract: Records of the Llanishen English Baptist Church: minute books of church meetings, 1913-1960; minute books of deacons meetings, 1925-1957; and Sunday School teachers' meetings minute books, 1911-1932; and records of the Tredegarville English Baptist Church: minutes books of church meetings, 1897-1913; and cash book, 1896-1903.
