CONTEXT

Administrative/Biographical history: The Baptist denomination is not centrally organised. Each local Baptist chapel is a separate, autonomous body, self-governed by the church meeting. Ministers of each Baptist chapel are chosen by its members, and they do not necessarily have to be ordained or have any formal theological training. There are, however, various area associations, including the East Glamorgan Baptist Association, and a Union of Baptist churches, known as The Baptist Union of Great Britain and Ireland, was formed in 1891. It held its annual assembly in Cardiff in 1924.

Scope and content/abstract: Records of the Baptist Union of Great Britain, including official handbook of the annual assembly, Cardiff, 1924; and History of the South Wales Joint Board 1915-1972, anonymous, [c. 1972].
