Administrative/Biographical history: The Barry Yacht Club was formed in 1928, in Barry (Glamorgan), as the Barry Yacht & Motor Boat Club; it adopted its present name in 1933, when the members built the original clubhouse. In the early years, there were races for sailing cruisers, motor cruisers, outboard motor boats and the 'Barry 16' restricted class. During the Second World War, the clubhouse was occupied by the Services, primarily by Air Sea Rescue. After the War, the club had large dinghy racing fleets of national 18-footers, Albacores and Mirrors. The cruiser fleet is now (2004) most numerous.
