Administrative/Biographical history: The Caerphilly Local History Society, Caerphilly, Glamorgan, was formed in October 1957, with the aim of fostering interest in the history and archaeology of Caerphilly and district, by means of lectures, publications, visits and other activities. Membership has fluctuated between 35 and 70 over the period. By 2000, the society had published six journals. Members provided the text and illustration for Caerphilly in Old Picture Postcards, Vol. 2. The Society has accumulatd a small group of historic docuemnts and printed items.


Scope and content/abstract: Programme for the performance of 'Macbeth' in Caerphilly Castle, 7-10 June, 1939; plans and sections pertaining to the Caerphilly U.D.C. waterworks, 1897; annual report of the 'Loyal St Cenydd' Lodge, 1902; set of rules relating to the Victorian Building Club, Caerphilly, 1902; copies of Pebyll Seion [A History of the Congregational Churches in Caerphilly District] edited by C. Tawelfryn Thomas and E. Bush, 1904, and A History of Caerphilly Castle: Its Assailants and Defenders by O. Morien Morgan, 1905; and photographs of Caerphilly and surrounding area, [20th century]. There are no papers relating to the administration or activities of the Society.
