CONTEXT

Administrative/Biographical history: The Cowbridge & District Local History Society was formed in 1974, in Cowbridge (Glamorgan). The Local History Society, which is separate from the Cowbridge Record Society, has a seat on the Vale of Glamorgan Conservation Group, and takes a concern in planning matters which may affect the historic environment. Members have been involved in oral history, and recording the reminiscences of elderly residents, including Mrs Mary Ellis Joshua, of Ferndale, Rhondda, Glamorgan.

CONTENT

Scope and content/abstract: Records of the Cowbridge and District Local History Society, consisting of Mrs Mary Ellis Joshua's notes: "My Childhood: Glimpses into Life Amongst the Farming Community in the Vale of Glamorgan [c. 1830] as related to me by my paternal grandfather Mr David Thomas of Great House Farm, Llandough, nr. Cowbridge; Doctor Price of Llantrisant, pioneer of cremation in the last century; weather lore of the Vale as told in English and Welsh by my Grandfather; Llandough Mill", 1975.
