Administrative/Biographical history: On the 8th December 1930, a meeting was convened at Glamorgan County Hall to consider the task of writing a county history for the county of Glamorgan. The proposal was received with enthusiam and an appeal for subscriptions was met with a generous response. An executive committee was set up, and the scale of the history was referred to an editorial board (members of which included Sir Cyril Fox and H. J. Randall), elected on May 19, 1931. After much deliberation, the board decided upon a scheme which approximated to the Victoria County History of England. Professor Glanmor Williams was appointed General Editor in 1959. Preparation of the volumes was protracted, only completed in 1988. The Glamorgan County History is divided into six volumes: Volume 1 (Natural history), published 1936, Volume 2 (Early Glamorgan), 1984, Volume 3 (The Middle Ages), 1971, Volume 4 (Early Industrial), 1974, Volume 5 (Industrial), 1980, and Volume 6 (Glamorgan Society), 1988.
