CONTEXT

Administrative/Biographical history: The Girl Guide movement in Wales was governed by a representative body - the Council for Wales. Besides determining broad policies, this body elected representatives to the Welsh Executive Committee, which was responsible for organisation and administration. The Cardiff and East Glamorgan Association has its own Execitive Committee, and was also responsible for a Camping Committee, a Guide Centre at Marcross (Glamorgan), and an annual swimming gala. The association included ranger and sea ranger groups, and a Disabled branch.

Scope and content/abstract: Records of the Cardiff and East Glamorgan Girl Guide Association relating to World Guiding, 1918, 1928; annual report of Guides, Cymru, 1999; East Glamorgan County Executive Committee minute books, 1944-1984; Camping Committee minutes, 1924-1973; Cardiff and East Glamorgan Girl Guides Annual Swimming Gala programmes, 1960-1974; annual reports, 1963-1979; records relating to Marcross Guide Centre, 1970-1990; minutes for the North West Division, 1987-1991; records relating to the Ranger Guides, 1919-1971; records relating to the Girl Guides, 1917-1973; records relating to the Sea Rangers, 1953-1974; and records relating to the Disabled Branch, 1949-1972.

Conditions governing access: No restrictions. These records are stored in an outside repository. They should be ordered at least a week in advance of an intended visit so that they can be brought into the Record Office for consultation in the search room.
