Administrative/Biographical history: Following the National Health Service Act 1946, Local Executive Councils were established which had responsibility for family practitioner services. These councils dealt with family doctors, dentists and pharmaceutical arrangements in their area. The county of Glamorgan was covered by three Councils, Cardiff, Glamorgan and Merthyr Tydfil. These Councils were successors to earlier Insurance Committees.
Scope and content/abstract: Records of the National Health Service, [c. 1900]-[c. 1985], includes: Cardiff Executive Council, signed minutes, 1947-1970; register of agreements and contracts entered into by Cardiff Insurance committee and Cardiff Executive Council, 1925-1976; Glamorgan Executive Council, signed minutes, 1947-1969; Merthyr Tydfil Executive Council, signed minutes, 1947-1973; Glamorgan Insurance Committee, printed rules and procedures for the administration of medical benefit, allocation and distribution schemes and copy of National Insurance Act and Medical Benefit Regulations, 1936; photographs of Medical Officers of Health [c. 1900]-[c. 1985].
