Administrative/Biographical history: The Scout Association was founded in 1907 by Lord Baden-Powell to promote the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential as individuals and as responsible citizens by providing progressive training under adult leadership. Central archives are held at the Scout Association headquarters, Baden-Powell House, Queen's Gate, London. Individual scout troops are grouped into regional Associations. In south Wales, these included the Cardiff, East Glamorgan (Vale of Glamorgan and Rhondda-Cynon Taff) and Mid Glamorgan (Caerphilly) Associations; some were subivided into Districts. The Welsh Scout Council oversaw the associatiosn, and was responsible for running the Miskin Training Centre.
Scope and content/abstract: Records of the Boy Scout Association, 1908-1987, includes: records relating to the East Glamorgan Scout Association, 1908-1979; records relating to Mid Glamorgan Scout Association, [post 1915]-1987; records relating to Cardiff Scout Association, [c. 1910]-[c. 1922]; and records relating to the Welsh Scout Council, 1975-1983.

System of arrangement: Arranged as follows: DSCO/E, East Glamorgan Scout Group; DSCO/M, Mid Glamorgan Scout Group; DSCO/C, Cardiff Scout Group; and DSCO/1, Welsh Scout Council.
Conditions governing access: Most of the records are open. However, some of the records contain material of a sensitive nature relating to named individuals. These records are closed to the public for 75 years. They may be viewed at the discretion of the Glamorgan Archivist only. These records are stored in an outside repository. They should be ordered at least a week in advance of an intended visit so that they can be brought into the Record Office for consultation in the search room.
