CONTEXT

Administrative/Biographical history: Two sets of engines and pumps were supplied to the Cardiff Haematite Iron Ore Company Ltd, which operated Glamorgan Haematite Iron Ore Mine and Llanharry Iron Mine, by Hathorn, Davey & Co (Leeds), the first being ordered in October 1908. Additional pumps for the same plant were ordered in January 1911. A second plant was ordered in June 1916, but was not commissioned until January 8th 1920.

Scope and content/abstract: Records of the Glamorgan Haematite Iron Ore Mine, Llanharry, 1906-1936, including drawings of machine parts for Hathorn Davey Pumping Machinery (originals used in the Works for the manufacture of the plant).

System of arrangement: Arranged as follows: Order No. 6764, 1917-1920 (plans dated 1912-1936); Order No. 6388, 1909 (plans dated 1906-1928); and Order No. 6504, 1911 (plans dated 1911).

Conditions governing reproduction: Normal Glamorgan Record Office conditions apply.

Physical characteristics: These drawings are the originals used in the works for the manufacture of the plant. All are dirty and in some cases badly worn.

Finding aids: A hard copy of the catalogue is available at the Glamorgan Record Office.
