Administrative/Biographical history: Richard Wyndham Williams (1827-1902) was a native of Cardiff, Glamorgan, the son of Richard Wyndham Williams and his wife Susanna (née Gardner, from Manchester, Lancashire). He qualified as a solicitor, and by 1855 had a practice at 7 Angel Street. By 1859, his home was at Windsor Villa, Crockherbtown (later known as Queen Street and Newport Road), Cardiff. In 1888-1889, he moved to the Park, Llanishen, Cardiff. His offices had moved to 8 Charles Street by 1884. He was treasurer of Glamorgan Quarter Sessions from 1885, and of Glamorgan County Council from its formation in 1889 until his death in 1902, and also secretary of the Ely Valley Railway Co. His son, Lawrence Gardner Williams, was born in 1861, and entered the same profession as his father. He joined James Hugh Prichard to form the firm of L. G. Williams and Prichard, solicitors, in Cardiff.
Scope and content/abstract: Records of the Williams family of Cardiff and Llanishen, 1796-1902, consists of: deeds of property of the Williams family in Cardiff, 1796-1902, in Gelligaer, 1830, and Llanishen, 1847-1885; settlements and wills, 1798-1967; personal official and estate papers of R. W. Williams, 1850-1896; wills and other documents of the family of Susannah Gardner, 1798-1878; and records of the professional activities of R.W. and L. G. Williams as trustees and executors, 1875-1902.
