Administrative/Biographical history: Solomon Andrews and his son Francis Emile Andrews, of Cardiff, were prominent entrepreneurs in public transport and took an active part in the development of omnibus and tramway services in Wales and England,notably in Manchester; Belfast, in northern Ireland; Leicester, Nottingham; and Pontypridd and Rhondda valley. They were also engaged in smaller undertakings in Llanelli, co. Carmarthen, and Swansea; Pwllheli and Llanbedrog, co. Caernarfon; Newport, co. Monmouth; and Bristol. Most of these concerns suffered financially from rival services, particularly trams, and by the time of the death of Solomon Andrews in 1909, all of the businesses had been sold.
