Administrative/Biographical history: The Corbetts were a leading Glamorganshire family. John Stuart Corbett (b.1816) was a J.P. and the son of the Venerable Archdeacon Stuart Corbett of York. The family residence was Cogan Pill, near Cardiff, a mansion built by the Herbert family c1550. In 1793 Cogan Pill was purchased by the Earl of Bute.
