Administrative/Biographical history: The first Barry Docks were constructed in 1884-1889 and the Barry Pilotage Board was constituted in 1889. The Board consisted of three directors of the Barry Dock and Railway Company, and up to nine additional members comprising ship owners, pilots and a nominee of the Board of Trade.
