Administrative/Biographical history: Lewis Vincent Sherley was a partner in Luard and Sherley solicitors at Castle Street, Cardiff in 1871. By 1882, Luard and Sherley had moved to new offices in Albert Chambers, 26 High Street, Cardiff. By the 1890s, the firm appears to have changed its name to Shirley and Sons. The firm finally disappears from local trade directories by the 1920s. The firm accumulated documents, presumably relating to its clients, relating to the Richards family of Cardiff, Mary Charles, and the Wathen and Wilkins families.
Scope and content/abstract: Wills and apprenticeship indenture relating to the Shirley family of Cardiff, 1841-1896; documents relating to the Richards family, including probate of will, accounts, bills and receipts, 1802-1809; correspondence, 1836-1854; documents relating to Mary Charles, 1838-1844; documents relating to Wathen and Wilkins families, 1799-1859; and miscellaneous deeds and documents, 1614-1922.
